Programs for the Homeless Children and Youth more

We founded the Alliance for Children and Youth in 2002 in order to build on the experiences and achievements of our Street Children Program which began in 1993. The mission of the Alliance is to protect the rights of children and youths on the street in accordance with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, and to contribute to ensuring decent conditions for these children’s overall development and re-integration into society.

Drug Prevention Program more

In recent years, drug abuse has become one of the most serious social problems in Bulgaria; the number of addicted people has exceeded 100,000. It is even more alarming that the average age for youth starting to abuse heroin has fallen to 15-16 years of age and is even lower for marihuana and other ‘soft’ drugs.

“Panitza” Civic Honor Prizes more

In order to build and expand on what was achieved by the Excellence in Journalism Awards (1994 – 2004), we founded the new Panitza Civic Honor Prizes.

Institute for Studies of the Recent Past more

In the more than 15 years since the fall of communism, Bulgarian society has failed to make an adequate assessment of its recent past (the term is used to refer to the period from the 1940s to the changes in 1989 and the subsequent period of transition), and for this reason it has been unable to draw the appropriate conclusions or establish the proper basis for its future development.

Bulgarian School of Politics more

The Bulgarian School of Politics began as an initiative of the FDBF in 2002 and a year later was registered as an independent entity, its founders being the FDBF, the New Bulgarian University and the Open Society Institute in Sofia.

Outward Bound more

Outward Bound – Bulgaria was launched in 1994 with the support of the FDBF and since 1999 is an independent non-profit organization which has become the leader in the field of specialized outdoor training in the country. It holds a full license by Outward Bound International and is part of the worldwide network of OB schools.

Junior Achievement more

Junior Achievement – Bulgaria supported by the FDBF, offers educational programs in economics to high-school students.

My Rights in the European Union more

On the eve of Bulgaria’s accession to the European Union on January 1, 2007, FDBF with the support of the French Robert Schuman Foundation printed 500,000 copies of a foldout entitled My Rights in the European Union.

Humanitarian Assistance more

Although this is not part of the Foundation’s primary goals, over the years, we have provided, with the generous support of donors, more than 100,000 Euros in emergency aid to hospitals and hospices, children’s homes, schools and members of the minorities.
