The Bulgarian School of Politics was established to promote the development of a modern political and governmental culture based on the shared values of pluralism, tolerance and open dialogue. The School holds four annual seminars in Bulgaria with the participation of speakers and experts from Bulgaria, the EU member states, the US, Russia and South-Eastern Europe, focusing on democratic governance models, political process and political communication. The School does not aim to articulate solutions to concrete political, social or economic problems; rather it is aimed at developing and maintaining a climate of tolerance and respect for differences to create an atmosphere where ideas and good practices can be shared.
Each year the School trains some 50 young political and civic leaders: Members of Parliament, civil servants, mayors and municipal councilors, journalists, ethnic minorities representatives, religious leaders (both Christian and Muslim) and outstanding civil society representatives who, after graduating, become members of its Alumni Club that regularly holds discussions on prominent issues regarding the political and social development of our country.
The School curriculum has been approved by the New Bulgarian University and successful participants are awarded credits which are recognized by the University towards their respective Master’s programs.
Another important part of the School’s activities is its Regional Program, entitled Political Debate in South-Eastern Europe, which includes a number of consecutive training seminars attended by young political and civil leaders from all of the South East European countries.
The Bulgarian School of Politics is a founding member of the Network of Schools of Political Studies operating under the aegis of the Council of Europe, and annually holds its concluding seminar within the framework of the Council of Europe’s Summer University for Democracy in Strasbourg.
