In 1998, on the occasion of the 50th Anniversary of the signing of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the FDBF published a small brochure entitled My Rights with excerpts of key texts related to human rights, which are guaranteed to every Bulgarian citizen by the Constitution and by the international Conventions ratified by the Bulgarian Parliament. |

Two million copies of the brochure, printed with the means of FDBF and with the support of the Delegation of the European Commission to Bulgaria, have been distributed in the branches of the nation-wide network of the Bulgarian Savings Bank (DSK), secondary schools, universities and non-profit organizations.
My Rights reached every corner of Bulgaria, including the smallest towns and villages, and provoked strong public reaction and unleashed an incredibly powerful public energy. The enthusiastic response to our initiative, especially from young Bulgarians, has been reflected in a series of inquiries conducted by the regional correspondents of the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA). Even today, eight years after the publishing of the brochure, when we travel around the country we often meet people who cherish their copy of My Rights as a symbol of their dignity as citizens of a free and democratic Bulgaria.
The success of our initiative has inspired the publication of similar brochures in Russia and Southeast European countries.
Our partners in the implementation of this project were the Bulgarian Lawyers for Human Rights and the Bulgarian Helsinki Committee.
