Humanitarian Assistance

Although this is not part of the Foundation’s primary goals, over the years, we have provided, with the generous support of donors, more than 100,000 Euros in emergency aid to hospitals and hospices, children’s homes, schools and members of the minorities.

Since 1996, FDBF supports the “Miloserdie” Hospice in Sofia. Modeled after the international Mother Teresa Hospices, this noble endeavor provides shelter, food, clothing and medical assistance to Sofia’s elderly and terminally ill. The Hospice also helps old artists, musicians, writers, journalists who live alone, lead a dignified life. For more about the “Miloserdie” Hospice go to www.hospice-miloserdie.hit.bg.

Concerned by the lack of facilities for the handicapped in the premises of the Bulgarian Parliament, the FDBF initiated the installation of an elevator/platform for wheelchairs, thus enabling MPs and their visitors with mobility problems to move around more freely, with easy access to a conference room, where they can meet and discuss. The elevator began functioning on Christmas Eve 2006 and has been particularly welcomed.
